Welcome to the renewed and updated world of DragonSwords.

History of DragonSwords 2 RPG

The Beginning
DragonSwords II RPG is based on the original text based roll playing game DragonSwords made in 2001. DragonSwords had many owners. The owner and team of original developers of DragonSwords II played the original DragonSwords until it was hacked and shut down. Liam Finch (current DSII owner) wanted to own a text-based MMORPG from the first day he played one. After the shut down of the original game, Liam decided to develop his own game based on DragonSwords. While discussing names for the new game with other players from the original. Divian (M² Mistry Man) said, why not just call it DS2! Everyone liked the idea, and DragonSwords II RPG was born.

Rough Start
The game had a pretty tough time getting started. The game it was based on had been hacked, and hackers could take advantage of numerous open holes in the new game as well. Mainly through trial and error, slowly the backdoors and holes were closed and filled in. At this point the game was mainly just a base system of fighting and levelling without much direction or storyline. Although a relatively simple text-based RPG, the game still was able to get a solid base of players. When asked what they enjoyed about the game, most players ranked chatting with friends close to the top. The players of DragonSwords II make up a great community. Hopping into DragonSwords II chat is always good for a laugh, and is always a nice relaxing break from everyday stress. Aside from chatting, training, fighting, and levelling, the game did not have much to offer.

Just When Things Start to Get Better
The game continously aquired coders over the first few months of operation. Parts of the game saw continous improvement and updates. Better Forums and Chat sytems were added. In-game Clans were improved. Although the game grew to a relatively large base with over 100 players online at any given time, there were some core game difficiencies that were causing headaches. The economy in the game grew out of control with high level players making a lot more gold than they could spend. Inflation grew out of control and the small staff of coders could not figure out how to control the exponential growth of wealth. One of the failing attempts to control inflation was putting price caps on what players could charge for the items they sold. This just caused the markets to go empty very quickly as the high level players could afford to buy everything that was placed on the market immediately. Many players doubted that the bugs and economy issues in the game could allow the game to successfully survive past the one year mark. Eventually one of the coders for DragonSwords II either intentionally, or just out of coding ignorance, crashed the game beyond repair. The game shut down without warning or notice to the players without ever seeing its first birthday. No one knew if this was the end of DragonSwords II.

The Beginning... Again
Although the game appeared dead to the outside, behind closed doors, the staff of DragonSwords II were busilly working to repair the damage and deficiencies in the game. After two months, of fixes and testing, the game was reborn. Unfortunately the crash had caused a total loss of the player database. With lessons learned from the first age of DragonSwords II, the game started over with a new economy. With prices and incomes adjusted, and the markets opened for free trade, the game looked like it could have a healthy life.

First Anniversary
DragonSwords II celebrated its re-openning anniversary in January of 2008. New Staff and Coders along with some of the original cast have been updating and testing the game regularly.
